Celebrity Brides Who Wore Colourful Wedding Dresses

1. Elizabeth Taylor (1964)
Big screen icon Elizabeth Taylor wore non-white wedding dresses for six of her eight weddings, but it’s this canary yellow number that tops the list for us. Worn at her wedding to fellow actor Richard Burton in 1964, and created by costume designer Irene Sharaff, the babydoll-style minidress is quintessentially 1960s. We love how Liz gave her look a bridal feel by having hyacinths and lilies of the valley weaved into her braided updo.

2. Gwen Stefani (2002)
Ever the unconventional dresser, Gwen Stefani made a bold style statement to wed fellow musician Gavin Rosdale in 2002. Her John Galliano couture wedding dress featured an eccentric, asymmetric cut, designed to look as though someone had passionately tugged at the fabric, and was made from ivory silk, which was spray-painted pink towards the hem.
3. Chloë Grace Moretz (2025)
Chloë Grace Moretz tied the knot with model and photographer Kate Harrison wearing a baby blue Cinderella-inspired gown by Louis Vuitton. Eschewing traditional white, the actress chose a floor-length design with delicate spaghetti straps, a satin-frilled bodice with bead-embroidered panels and soft satin sashes draped across the body. The fairytale aesthetic was completed with matching satin opera gloves and a powder-blue trailing veil that swept elegantly behind her, creating a romantic, storybook finish.

4. Mandy Moore (2018)
This is Us star Mandy Moore chose a ruffled, pink confection by Rodarte to wear at her back-garden wedding to married musician Taylor Goldsmith, and we are huge fans of its candy pink shade and retro style. The tulle, embroidered gown was clearly inspired by the romantic styles of the late 60s and early 70s. We love this dress so much, we’ve actually written an entire feature on it for you to deep dive into.

5. Agyness Deyn (2016)
Model Agyness Deyn wore a blush tulle midi dress by London designer Molly Goddard as she married hedge fund manager Joel McAndrew in Brooklyn Heights, surrounded by close friends and family. Known for her frothy, fairytale creations, Goddard designed the sheer, softly ruffled gown in a pretty pink hue that felt both romantic and modern. Deyn kept her beauty look natural and accessorised with teal bejewelled pumps as her ‘something blue’, perfectly matching her new husband’s pocket square, and carried an unusual bouquet of orchids and wheat for a distinctive finishing touch.
6. Victoria Beckham (1999)
Victoria Beckham walked down the aisle at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland in 1999 wearing a champagne silk gown by Vera Wang. However, it’s arguably the couple’s coordinating royal purple reception outfits by Antonio Berardi that fans remember most, showcasing their signature style and flair for bold, memorable colour.

7. Audrey Hepburn (1969)
For her third wedding in January 1969, Audrey Hepburn married psychiatrist Andrea Dotti in a design by her longtime friend and collaborator Hubert de Givenchy. By this stage an international star, having captivated audiences in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady, Hepburn once again turned to the couturier who had shaped her most iconic screen moments. Givenchy had famously created the little black dress she wore as Holly Golightly, a defining piece of fashion history, making him the natural choice for her elegant and understated bridal look.

8. Lady Kitty Spencer (2021)
The eldest daughter of Earl Spencer and Victoria Lockwood, and niece of Diana, Princess of Wales, Lady Kitty Spencer embraced colour throughout her wedding celebrations. She turned to Dolce & Gabbana for her entire bridal wardrobe, with Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce creating multiple bespoke looks for the weekend. Alongside her main gown, following the wedding ceremony, the bride changed into a double organza, hand-painted silk gown adorned with flowers and crystals for the reception, and finally a colourful, beaded cocktail dress for dancing.

9. Emma Thompson (1989)
When actors Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh tied the knot in 1989, Emma was not about to play it safe! Inspired by Renaissance fashion, her knee-length wedding dress featured a unique print in shades of pink, purple, green and yellow. It’s an eclectic look that really speaks to Thompson’s individuality.

10. Katy England (2006)
Katy England, best known for her extensive work with Alexander McQueen and as creative director for Givenchy under Ricardo Tisci, brought her signature bold style to her 2006 wedding. A longtime friend of Kate Moss, England said her vows to Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie in a playful pastel candy-striped ensemble by Lee McQueen and created in-house at the atelier in the Clerkenwell studios, opting for colour and pattern over traditional white, perfectly reflecting her creative and fashion-forward spirit.

11. Katharine McPhee (2019)
Singer-songwriter Katharine McPhee wore not one, but two ivory Zac Posen gowns for her wedding to musician David Foster in 2019, but it’s her third wedding dress that caught our eye! Another Zac Posen creation, this time in a beautiful greyish blue, its sculptural silhouette and tea length are so gorgeous. Best of all, we bet she’s worn it half a dozen times since!

12. Keira Knightley (2013)
Actress Keira Knightley embraced a relaxed and effortlessly chic approach to her 2013 wedding with musician James Righton. For the ceremony, she virtually skipped into a blush Chanel strapless tulle mini dress she had previously worn to the 2008 BAFTAs, paired with a cropped Chanel jacket designed personally by the late Karl Lagerfeld, and completed the look with signature cap-toe Chanel flats. Knightley later revealed she also had a second, full-length custom Valentino gown decorated with pink flowers. She has reworn her Chanel mini dress many times since, adding a sustainable fashion element to her wedding look, which we totally applaud.

13. Sarah Jessica Parker (1997)
Sarah Jessica Parker kept things deliberately low key when she married Matthew Broderick on May 19, 1997. Rather than commissioning a traditional gown, she chose a dress by Morgan Le Fay that she found hanging in one of her favourite stores. The surprise was its colour. The spaghetti-strap, tiered-skirt design was black. Parker believed the understated choice would avoid fuss, yet it became one of the most talked-about celebrity wedding dresses for years. Although she has since admitted she regrets not wearing white, she has embraced more traditional bridal style on screen and even wore a bridal-inspired gown by Vera Wang to the 2017 Golden Globes.
14. Priyanka Chopra (2018)
For her Hindu wedding to Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra wore a traditional red lehenga, custom-made by Indian fashion designer, Sabyasachi, which took 110 Indian embroiderers 3,720 hours to create, and features hand-cut organza flowers, French knots in silk floss, and layers of thread work. Paired with Chopard jewellery and Christian Louboutin x Sabyasachi, it’s an absolute heart-stopper. Read more about her wedding style here or check out more brides who wore red dresses here!
