Finding the perfect wedding dress is such an exciting process but it isn’t always easy! From silhouettes to fabrics, to choosing a bridal boutique and leaving enough time for alterations, it may take more research and consideration than anything you’ve ever bought in your wardrobe. So it’s understandable that wedding dress shopping can be overwhelming!
Beyoncé could have taken her pick of bridal designers to create her wedding dress but she knew the perfect woman for the job: her mother Tina! The businesswoman and fashion designer had made many of her daughter’s milestone outfits including her prom dress, her stage outfits for Destiny’s Child in the early 2000s and even her first gown for the Grammys.
So we can only imagine it was such a special experience for both ladies when she designed the most important dress her daughter would ever wear. Except Beyoncé’s reaction to the gorgeous gown may surprise you.
The Story Behind Beyoncé’s Wedding Dress
Beyoncé and Jay-Z wed in 2008 in his penthouse apartment in New York city. It was an intimate celebration with 40 guests and a dazzling floral display as 70,000 dendrobium orchids were flown in from Thailand.
Nothing could steal the spotlight from the dazzling bride in her classic wedding dress with a glamorous twist. The gown her mother designed for her was a strapless A-line dress boasting an exaggerated sweetheart neckline, ruched detailing and a ruffled train.
Fans got a closer look at the glorious gown in the music video for her hit All Night.
While Beyoncé looked absolutely breathtaking, Tina later on admitted in an interview that she may not have been too keen about her wedding dress.
“She was so sweet to let me do that,” she said during an interview with Today.

“She came back later one day said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’ Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart,” she said.
What a sport! Every bride dreams of what their wedding dress will look like and if it is not exactly as they imagined it is understandable to have all kinds of feelings about it.
Given that her mum made her dress that is certainly a highly delicate situation for Beyoncé to navigate.

While we will never know exactly how Beyoncé felt about her wedding dress the fact that her mother made it for her would make it, to quote Queen Bee herself, irreplaceable!
