Today’s real wedding featuring Belfast-based couple Charlotte and Colm is guaranteed to take your breath away. Joyful colour, pure love and timeless style combined in this summer celebration on Lusty Beg Island. Charlotte and Colm are both animators and they relished the opportunity to bring their dream day to life in their own unique style. From designing the stationery themselves to dreaming up the sweetest idea for their guest book, we know you’ll swoon over all the details!
The couple said yes to forever in a floral-filled ceremony and every moment of their reception was laced with joy. Featuring a contemporary chic bridal look, an ultra-sweet pastel palette, breathtaking ethereal blooms, doggie table numbers, a macaron-dappled cake, and even cute tattoos, we’re so ready to dive into all the magic below. All the treasured moments were captured so beautifully by Sheena T Photography. Let’s get going!

Charlotte is from Donegal and Colm is from Wexford and they met while they were in college in 2011. “We both studied Animation in IADT in Dun Laoghaire. We were friends first and were even house mates for two years before we ever became a couple.”

Fast forward to their proposal, “We were in Dingle for a long weekend in February 2023. Colm proposed while we were out for a walk with our Golden Retriever, Moose on Inch beach. Moose was in the water and Charlotte was bending down to take a photo of him, as she turned back round, there was Colm down on one knee. Dingle is a special place for us as Colm was working down there for a couple of months at the start of our relationship. It was the perfect place to get engaged!”

Family was the most important part of their celebration. “We wanted to be able to invite all of our favourite people, without having to cut down our guestlist too much. We wanted to make sure we found a venue where everyone could stay as people were travelling from quite a distance. We wanted to find somewhere that felt comfortable and relaxed for us, and we think Lusty Beg was the perfect place!”

Northern Irish floral studio Bloom Barn designed the flowers which exuded pure ethereal magic!

Charlotte took our breath away wearing gown from Pippa Bridal that was modern and oh-so-romantic. She accessorised with baby blue bow heels and pearl drop earrings from Accessorize.

When Charlotte was doing research on Pinterest she came across a picture of bridesmaids wearing different pastel coloured dresses and that was the spark that inspired the rest of the dreamy aesthetic. “We loved the idea of having lots of colour in our wedding.”

“Our overall theme for the wedding was colourful and fun, We made a lot of the decorations ourselves such as the table numbers, place names, menus, invitations, and signs, roping in our bridal party to help us too. We wanted to add our own personal touch to the day and for it to feel like us. We were just super excited to bring our families together and to have all our favourite people on our own wee island, for a weekend.

Oh hello gorgeous summer blooms! The beautiful bouquets had a gorgeous freshly-picked feel.

Wedding newspapers make for a truly memorable wedding keepsake.

Charlotte and Colm’s heartfelt ceremony was officiated by Fleur Mellor with music from The Cellists.

They did a handfasting ritual and Charlotte’s sister read Wedding Poem by Whitney Hanson which is a truly beloved ceremony reading by One Fab Day couples! “It which was really special as it was translated into french to include Charlotte’s French side of the family.”

Walking into their forever surrounded by 150 of their cherished people.

Charlotte and Colm got creative with their guest book, “Instead of writing your name and leaving your message in a book, we had a sign where everyone drew a little caricature of themselves and signed their name underneath. It felt like a more personal touch to have guests draw themselves instead. Everyone had a lot of fun with it and we have the picture framed in our office now. It turned out class and is such a lovely memento of the day.”

The couple were enamoured by their wedding venue in the Fermanagh Lakelands instantly. “As soon as we got off the wee boat that brings you over to the island, the sun was shining, and it was so beautiful and calm. We knew straight away it was the place for us. We loved the laid-back atmosphere of the island and the pub was lovely and cosy. The food was amazing too! It was a huge bonus for us that there were so many types of accommodation as it meant our families and most of our guests were able to stay on the island together.”

“Everyone always told us that it goes by so quickly and to enjoy every minute and we cannot agree more,” Charlotte says when asked for her wedding day advice. “The day itself goes by in the blink of an eye and is just the loveliest day ever surrounded by your nearest and dearest. Enjoy every minute and don’t worry about the small things.”

Their adored dog Moose played a starring role in their table numbers. “We made them ourselves and it was a nice way to have him included in the day without him being at the wedding. He would have been far too excited to actually be there with us!”

They gave ‘his and her favourite’ bags of sweets for the wedding favours.

Colm is a big fan of Biffy Clyro and they chose Space as their first dance song.

Their textured pastel cake covered in macaron and flowers was by French Village. So sweet and stunning.

How cute were their temporary tattoos?

They continued the celebrations with a sun-soaked honeymoon in Portugal. “We went to Porto for a couple of days and then to Madeira for a week. We went a couple of days after our wedding and it was soo lovely and relaxing. The weather was fab and the food was amazing. Madeira is a super cool island with lots to see and do. We can’t wait to go back!”
