A Glam, Fun & Edgy Destination Wedding in France

A Glam, Fun & Edgy Destination Wedding in France

Today’s real wedding whisks us away to the stunning south west of France, lucky us! Glamorous, timeless, edgy and seriously fun, Rosie and Jamie tied the knot surrounded by 90 of their nearest and dearest at the scenic La Cannonerie in Charente Maritime. The 17th-century estate exudes rustic charm and it was the perfect backdrop for their timeless black-tie celebration with a clean, neutral aesthetic and delicate bursts of baby blue. Their autumn celebration was bathed in the kind of fairytale light you dream of, so much effortlessly chic inspiration awaits you. Check out their unforgettable celebration of love below with gorgeous imagery from Jonathan Continente.

While they live in London today Rosie and Jamie first met in their local town of Virginia in Cavan when they were finishing college. Rosie tells us, “Jamie worked in the local bar and I worked in the local bar and restaurant. A few staff nights out later we became a couple at Christmas 2014 and the rest is history, soon after meeting we went travelling in SE Asia and then we moved to London to pursue careers in Marketing (Jamie) and for me working in Fashion Buying for M&S and then later at ASOS.”

Jamie proposed in the West of Ireland where his family is from. “It was quite a funny story as Jamie had planned a nice walk but the weather wasn’t on his side, the venue then treated us to an early check-in to which the room was fully decorated for post-proposal celebrations with balloons and champagne despite Jamie not having proposed yet! The bell boy on check in was like, “God it looks like some one is getting married”, a very red faced shakey groom tried to play it down but then eventually produced the goods and we were engaged!”

Rosie found the destination wedding venue of their dreams on Instagram. “I wanted a wedding that was abroad but I didn’t want it to feel too themed like a typical chateaux or villa, I just knew straight away that La Cannonerie was it as it was rustic but also like a stately home in other parts, I feel it just offered everything we wanted and had so many different options to host events so there was a change of scenery throughout the three days.”

Being realistic about their budget was one of their top priorities at the beginning but they wanted to ensure it included an all-inclusive experience for their guests. “I do hope we pulled that off although the budget tracker slightly waned off towards the end! Besides budget we just wanted a venue that could offer an experience of a holiday, a retreat away from normal life for the three days.”

Rosie’s breathtaking bespoke wedding dress by Gillian Million boasted a cat eye neckline and delightful draping, it was sculptural and soft equally. “My dress formed the vision for the aesthetic really, it wasn’t at all what I had envisioned and then when I tried it on I just knew I wanted the wedding to feel glamorous but with a fun edgy feel.”

The bridesmaids carried single stem bouquets of calla lilies adorned with elegant cream ribbons. Talk about a simple bouquet idea with a big impact!

“Our uncle Paul hosted the ceremony that made it so personal to us and my mum and our beautiful friend did personalised readings,” the bride reflects.

We’ll always adore bridesmaids in blush. Rosie’s bridal besties wore fabulous satin gowns with asymmetric draped necklines from In the Style and they chose their own shoes.

She reflects more on the vibe they wanted to achieve, “We wanted the wedding to be black tie so that everyone was dressed their best and with that we wanted to give our guests a black-tie experience, it was so important for us that our guests also got a holiday and had some fun so a pool was an essential for the separate events to the wedding so that people had a place to relax and chill and get to know one another before the wedding.”

The flowers by Mrs Whiterose were also inspired by Rosie’s wedding dress and she wanted them to be “pretty but not too pretty, a little bit electric and FUN!”

Planning and styling was by Dorulete Events and for the reception the long tables were styled with linen runners, wooden cross-back chairs, curved silhouette glass vases, silver cutlery, and pillar candles in cylinder vases. While keeping the aesthetic neutral and clean, Rosie wanted to incorporate an air of France by adding small baby blue details such as the menus that sported sweet floral illustrations and shining satin bows.

What an entrance!

Hair stylist Aoife Gaffney created her romantic waves while makeup artist Margret Connolly was behind her softly glamorous bridal beauty look.

Being joined by their loved ones from around the world made the celebration as magical as could be. “I think it truly does go without saying, it is the people all being there for you, we had so many friends travel to France from the UK, Ireland, Australia and beyond and it was just that amazing feeling of having everyone in the same place, we also gave our families key roles in the wedding like our uncles as the host and celebrant and the granny aunties as flower girls and obviously a MASSIVE bridal party, it was just one big eclectic mix of family friends and FUN!” Their beloved pooch Fiadh was also along for the ride.

Rosie swears by a piece of wedding piece advice her best friend gave her, “We tried to turn the planning into date nights/wedmin selecting songs, suppliers etc., it can be easy to get wrapped up in it, but at the end of the day it’s a big party and you have got this!”

They skipped their first dance because their band were so amazing they had everyone dancing on the tables after the main course! Their celebration also included an epic champagne tower pour.

Keeping with the sun-kissed celebrations, Rosie and Jamie are hoping to go to The Maldives for their honeymoon.
