A Rustic & Irresistibly Romantic Cloughjordan House Wedding

Dreaming of a summer wedding bursting with bright style? We know you’ll adore today’s real wedding at Cloughjordan House. Bethan and Ben wanted a really fun, relaxed and romantic celebration and their August fete was everything they dreamt of and more. With a rustic and colourful palette that enhanced the beauty of their homely venue, bright and breathtaking blooms from Willow Florals drove the styling and their marquee reception had an unexpected and wonderfully chic 70s twist. They were joined by 90 of their favourite people and the unforgettable moments were never-ending. Pawel Bebenca captured all the joy, let’s get into it!

Bethan is from Clonmel in Co. Tipperary and Ben hails from Llantwit Major in South Wales where they live today. They met on Tinder in 2021 and from their first date Beth knew she had found the man of her dreams. The proposal was an amazing surprise, she tells us. “It was the day before Ben’s birthday. We had gone to celebrate his birthday in Cardiff and it ended up with an engagement. The next day Ben had organised both our families to be there to celebrate with us both.”

Cloughjordan House is renowned for its home-from-home vibe and the private and self-sustained venue was the perfect location for their multi-day celebration. They held a pre-wedding dinner the night before and they kept the celebrations going with a day two bash.

From the moment they started wedding planning they knew they wanted to have a chilled day with wonderful music and food.

The couple tied the knot in the converted ceremony space, the Cowshed. Willow Florals did the flowers and the styling and clusters of colourful flowers in dark orange vases lined the aisle with some propped up by blocks of wood. The couple exchanged vows in front of a dazzling backdrop with a wooden frame dressed with pastel pink fabric with blooms in bud vases suspended by colourful ribbons.

They opted for a rustic and relaxed aesthetic of the wedding as it represented them as a couple and their personalities.

Absolutely enchanting. Bethan sourced her wedding dress of dreams by Paloma Blanca from Laura May Bridal in Cardiff. She had a romantic overskirt designed and made by Leigh Alexandra and she accessorised with ‘something blue’ heels with bows and a pearl necklace and earrings by Lily & Roo.

Bethan’s take-your-breath-away bouquet comprised of dahlia, sweetpea, daisies, and pincushion and it was tied with a fray-edged lavender ribbon.

A first look with her leading ladies – it’s a memory they will forever cherish!

Their flower girls, which included their daughter Nanci, wore darling puff sleeve dresses from Next.

“We really wanted a personal ceremony and after we listened to The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast we knew Emer Dillon was the perfect person to do our ceremony and luckily she was free! It was a completely personal ceremony created by us and Emer and it was the most special part of the day. We also included items of some special people that are no longer with us,” the bride reflects.

Their heartfelt ceremony included a handfasting and a salt covenant along with personal readings by Beth’s brother. Their favourite ceremony reading was Maybe which is perfect for couples who are all about looking at the positives in life. The couple wrote their own vows which made the service extremely special for them and all their close family and friends.

The 800-year-old country house sits on breathtaking grounds, it is a magical wedding location and the couple fell in love with it instantly when they viewed it. “The people were lovely. The venue really speaks for itself but it just felt like ‘us’ when we arrived. We were sold from the minute we stepped inside the gate. The staff were outstanding and the food was superb.”

The bridesmaids wore dark copper cowlneck gowns by Pretty Lavish which popped beautifully in the verdant setting and against the bright blooms.

Ben’s three-piece suit from Skopes which he accessorised with handsome tan brown leather brogues from Next and an orange tie nailed the rustic and relaxed dress code.

What an elegant wedding party! The navy groomsmen suits were a fabulous complement to the rich orange bridesmaids gowns.

Their wedding car was a cream 1964 split screen VW van which was wonderfully chic.

Their marquee reception was brimming with playful pops of bright colours and their florist suggested that they hang 70s-style lampshades above tables. “It topped off the fun rustic feel we were after.”

Their wedding was “utter perfection” she says. “We wanted a really fun, relaxed, romantic wedding and that’s exactly what we had. Not one single regret.”

They opted for a selection of petite sweet treats in the place of a traditional wedding cake which included adorable heart-shaped biscuits.

They share the following planning advice for engaged couples, “Make your wedding YOUR wedding, Don’t waste money and time trying to suit other people. Ensure you leave the day with no regrets and a massive smile of pure happiness and love.”

They took to the dancefloor to the iconic love song Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You by Andy Williams. The Brass Monkeys ensured that everyone had an unforgettable party on the dancefloor.

The couple celebrated their union with a sun-drenched honeymoon in the Maldives. “It was the perfect place to relax and spend time just as a newlywed couple enjoying good food and drinks.”
