It’s no secret we are big barn wedding lovers here at One Fab Day. But a barn wedding in Ireland with a plethora of fabulous details and a big ol’ side of romance well, that’s an entirely new level of obsession! Imagine fresh from the garden-esque florals, a sweet pastel hued palette, gorgeous bridal party style, a dreamy long-sleeve wedding dress and a whole lot of modern rustic-inspired pretty – Katie & Simon’s wedding, dear readers, may just be our new favourite barn wedding! Their sweeter than sweet Mountain View wedding captured wonderfully by Daven Casey has had us swooning from the moment we laid eyes on it and we just know you’re going to love it too.
So, first things first, let’s get to know our lovely couple a little better, shall we? Beautiful bride Katie hails from England & Groom Simon is from Ireland. The pair are currently living abroad in the Middle East. The lovebirds met over 7 years ago when they were both working in the same city. “We went for a few drinks in a local bar and quickly hit it off. There’s been a lot of adventures ever since!,” the bride tells.
The proposal happened while the couple were on a weekend away in the UK. Katie fills us in, “We were on a weekend minibreak, walking the sunny clifftop paths along the English coast. We nipped down a little laneway onto the beach and had the whole place to ourselves, Simon forgot to get down on one knee and had the ring on my finger before I could even answer, but it was a definite yes! Being by the sea has always been such a happy place for us so it was the perfect proposal.”
For their May wedding celebration, Katie wore a long-sleeved Essence of Australia gown with delicately embellished sleeves which she found while dress shopping at Wedding Belles of Four Oaks in Birmingham. To her look she added white satin block heels from ASOS, Earrings from Etsy and a full-lenght veil from Lace and Favour.
The final touch—a ‘something old’ bracelet passed down to Katie from her nana—brought her look together.
The bridesmaids stunned in sage green wrap midi dresses from Rewritten with a flattering flutter sleeve detail.
As for the groom, Simon donned a custom navy three-piece suit which he had made at a tailors in the Middle East.
The groomsmen also donned custom suits paired with sage ties which coordinated with the bridesmaids dresses perfectly.
On May 25, 2024, Katie arrived at the ceremony in a ‘something borrowed’ vintage Mercedes with her dad. “It ended up throwing it down with rain just as we were arriving at the venue so thank goodness for the ideal wedding car taking us right up to the door!”.
Once engaged, the couple envisioned a relaxed celebration surrounded by those they love. “We knew we didn’t want it to be too formal, and we wanted it to be fun! We wanted a day that suited us so we could enjoy time with our friends and family,” Katie says.
The bride adds, “We wanted a relaxed and fun-filled day with all our favourite people together in one place. We knew we wanted our wedding in Ireland and the venue we chose was rural but beautiful, with our ceremony taking place in a converted Cowshed. It was rustic and relaxed and didn’t matter that the rain poured all day!”.
And the perfect spot for their relaxed and fun celebration? The unique Mountain View in tucked into the hillside of Ballyhale not far from the Groom’s hometown in Co. Kilkenny.
The couples ceremony was conducted by Celebrant Andrea Hall and was filled with beautiful, personal elements. “We had a ceremony reading called Wedding Poem by Whitney Hanson which was just perfect and one of our favourite moments of the day,” Katie reminisces.
“We had our wedding rings made by the same jeweller who custom made the engagement ring, a little jewellers hidden away in Hatten Gardens Jewellery Quarter in London. We had both rings inscribed inside with the wedding date and each chose a little message to go inside each others rings. They’re simple, minimal bands, but just right for us.”
It’s official! The newlyweds made their way down the aisle as Bloom by The Paper Kites played out in the background which they also note as another favourite moment of the day.
Once announced as married, the newlyweds took a few quick moments for their wedding portraits before joining 120 of their loved ones for a floral-filled reception at Mountain View’s renovated barn space, known as The Cow Shed.
When asked what made their venue “the one”, the bride says, “We were after a venue that wasn’t too far from Simon’s hometown, and we wanted something a bit different. We came across the venue online and when we looked around it had everything we wanted, with multiple different areas for different parts of the day and a gorgeous view over the countryside.”
“The food was amazing and the staff were friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to ensure we had the best day – they cared about making sure it was right for us and that made all the difference. Having a glamping village on site meant loads of our guests could stay over after the wedding and enjoy the Sunday Craft/Food Market onsite the following day which was so lovely!”.
Aesthetically, the early summer nuptials had a “fresh off the meadow” vibe with a pretty pastel palette. “We really wanted the aesthetic to feel cohesive – from the flowers to the stationary, we aimed for a complementary and summery look. We chose lots of soft neutral/pastel colours, with clean, minimalist stationary, fresh flowers and a mix of textures throughout the décor and table settings. We were so happy with how it turned out, especially having planned and ordered most things from abroad – we only saw it all come together on the actual day but Bee & the team at the venue and Michelle the florist were all amazing so we knew it was in safe hands.”
The pair have the following sage advice for couples planning their big day, ” Book the big stuff well in advance and then you can relax for a little while knowing the big jobs are taken care of. Have a good idea in your head of what you want the day to look like / your priorities – they are totally personal, don’t worry about what other couples/weddings have been like, the day should suit you both as a couple. Don’t get too stressed about the details, plan in advance wherever you can (we made a lot of lists!) but when it comes to the actual day, just enjoy the moment, enjoy the morning getting ready with your closest friends and make the most of having all your important people together celebrating with you!”.
In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, the couple opted for a cheese wheel wedding cake by Wild Grazer.
The couple chose Dreams by the Cranberries for their first dance as husband and wife. “We both loved the song but also wanted something lively so our guests could join in and kickstart the dancefloor!”
The dancefloor was kept full all night long thanks to the couple’s wedding band, The Vinyls. “At one stage midway through the party, the band started playing Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whisky, most of our guests had popped off the dancefloor briefly to have a late bite to eat so we had the dancefloor to ourselves and loved having a quick moment together just the two of us to enjoy dancing to one of our favourite songs,” Katie recalls.
The couple are yet to go on honeymoon, but they are planning a trip to South Africa in the Autumn.
