Mountains, Waterfalls and Beaches: An Epic US Elopement

Wedding elopements are an incredibly romantic and intimate way to get married. Today’s wild and joyful real wedding proves exactly why. Inspired by their love of adventure and music, Amanda and Dan had an epic two-day elopement in the great outdoors that will leave you in awe. Based in New Jersey, their wedding adventure started well before the big day as they rented a camper van and road-tripped for two weeks from the East Coast with their baby boy Mason.

As avid travelers and nature lovers, they dreamt of tying the knot in the mountains and on the first day they exchanged vows at the Olympic National Park. Surrounded by their closest people, their ceremony among the peaks and the pines will sweep you away it was that magical and they held their lively reception at the Olympic Holiday Haus.

The following day they enjoyed a whirlwind adventure which took the bottom of a waterfall to the windswept Washington coastline. Family, adventure and nature married in what was simply an epic celebration of love. We cannot wait for you to see their incredible images by destination elopement photographers Sammnie and Micah of The Chaffins. Enjoy!

Music played a key role in their wedding as it did in their relationship. Amanda and Dan met through a mutual friend and as they started spending time together it turned out they were both going to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee in June. Throughout the spring and early summer months they bonded over the artists they liked from the lineup. The music festival would become their first of many adventures together in life.

Their proposal in Greece was so incredibly dreamy as Dan popped the question outside an old church on top of a mountain in Milos. “The sun was setting behind us. Everyone else that was also enjoying the views gave us a round of applause. Two funny things happened… Dan spent an unusually long time trying to steam the wrinkles out of his shirt and was panicking about it and Amanda had no idea why he was acting so weird because he usually does not care about things like this… Then after Dan set up his camera for what Amanda thought was a sunset video she started doing random poses being silly and Dan had to reel her back in so he can do the whole proposal.”

When it came to wedding planning, given the size of their families and all their friends, Dan and Amanda knew a traditional wedding would be huge in scale. After every one they attended, they’d say, “That was beautiful, but that isn’t for us.” They wanted their celebration to focus on exploring the outdoors.

Planned and styled by their photographers The Chaffins and Blue Ribbon, their top priorities were having a breathtaking mountain backdrop for their ceremony and they wanted a lively reception with great music and absolutely delicious food.

Travelling across the country with their son was a magical experience and they were overcome with emotion as they crossed Tacoma Narrows Bridge onto the Olympic Peninsula. “Not only did we make it across the country but we made it to this point in our relationship where we were finally getting to marry each other. This really made our day special we really cherished it.”

The couple get ready in a cosy Airbnb before heading into the mountains for the ceremony.

They tied the knot on a sun-kissed August day and they found their dream ceremony location. Prepare for your jaw to plummet!

Wow, look at that view! Encased by evergreen trees and surrounded by their cherished people, the moment Dan and Amanda saw each other for the first time they lit up with joy. It is a memory they will cherish forever.

The mountain range for their ceremony backdrop was the Bailey Mountain Range and Amanda’s last name is Bailey! “That really sealed the deal for us. We thought it was the perfect place for her to give her name to the mountains as we became a family.” It was meant to be!

35 of their nearest and dearest joined them for their unforgettable summer wedding, you can feel the pure joy in every single one of their wedding photos.

Dapper groom Dan wore a classic suit from Suitsupply opting to go tieless and sockless and their son was absolutely adorable in a cream suit from Small World Kids.

A bohemian beauty! Glowing bride Amanda was breathtaking in a floral embroidered tulle gown by Lillian West.

From magical mountain ranges to lush rainforests and beautiful beaches, Olympic had everything they could have dreamt of and more for their nature-inspired wedding. “The surrounding area (we stayed in Port Angeles) has tons of great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. Our guests travelled far for our wedding but every single one of them was absolutely gushing over their entire stay.”

After exchanging vows the newlyweds stole some time alone together to go on a short hike. They basked in the golden hour sunlight as they drank up the cinematic scenery before they rejoined their guests for dinner, laughter, and dancing at the Olympic Holiday Haus.

They had several songs on their list for their first dance song and they ended up choosing it while they were travelling to their wedding. “We threw them all out the window because as we were crossing over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge the song Buy Dirt by Jordan Davis was playing. We were in the middle of building our house when we left for our wedding, we were in the first year of having our first born, and the song just brought out so many emotions for us at the time so it just felt right.”

“Our band absolutely ROCKED,” they reflect and while it was impossible for them to pick a favourite song they shared their favourite moment. “During the bands set the police actually showed up because we got some complaints about being too loud. They were really understanding but of course they told us to turn it down a bit. After they left the band got back on the mic and before resuming their set they said, ‘If you guys are willing to go to jail tonight, we’re willing to join you”, and they turned the music up! The energy in the party was unforgettable at that moment.”

“Our wedding was perfectly us, the mountain setting was what we always dreamed of. It was our life squeezed into one day,” they reminisce gleefully. The festivities didn’t end there, they had a wonderful adventure planned for the second day.

Day two of their elopement began in a wonderfully scenic spot, by a mountain river in their van!

They took their son to a waterfall and splashed in the pool below.

Wild yet relaxed and brimming with bright hues, Amanda’s bouquet by Blue Ribbon was the perfect accompaniment to her enchantingly ethereal gown.

The newlyweds handed their son over to his grandparents and then they hiked through the rainforest and ended on the wild Washington coast.

They exchanged private vows, shared a first dance at sunset, and even jumped into the freezing Pacific Ocean! Pure magic.

They have the following sage wedding planning advice, “First, make sure your day is everything you want it to be. You are the only ones who matter that day, it is truly all about you. Second, good food and good music are the only thing you need to have an unforgettable party, don’t stress over all the little details.”
