Whether you call it a Sunday roast or a carvery, a lazy weekend roast dinner with all the trimmings is easily one of the most comforting meals in existence. And once you’ve found a restaurant or pub that does an outstanding version, catching up with friends and family becomes infinitely tastier!
In our book, Sunday roasts are the perfect next-day activity for not only weddings, but hen parties, stag dos and engagement bashes, particularly now that there are vegetarian and vegan alternatives! That’s why we’ve rounded up 10 of the best spots for a Sunday roast in Dublin, including a few options for Saturday roasts, too. Just remember that these exciting eateries are in high demand, so phone ahead to see if pre-order or reservation is required!
The Best Sunday Roast in Dublin
1. The Old Spot
A cosy and – dare we say it? – elegant gastropub on the south side of town, The Old Spot is perfect for an up-market hangover lunch, particularly when everyone in your party is an enthusiastic meat eater (although for vegetarians and pescatarians, there are lots of tempting non-roast dishes).
Choose between beer-roasted free range chicken, with sausage, sage and onion stuffing (€26) and Pat McLoughlin’s dry-aged sirloin of beef (€28), both of which are served with duck fat roast potatoes, roast carrots, cauliflower cheese and red wine jus.

2. 57 The Headline
A two-course Sunday roast will set you back €28 at 57 The Headline, but it’d be rude not to sample something from the refreshingly unpretentious cocktail menu while you’re at it. This beloved craft beer pub puts an international spin on the traditional Sunday roast with options like calamari and house cooked wings, and the main event is seriously luxurious, featuring celeriac purée and tarragon cream sauce along with staples like Yorkshire pudding and onion gravy. This is not Sunday lunch as your granny used to make it!

3. The Exchequer Wine Bar
A modern tapas restaurant that also happens to do terrific cocktails is an unexpected place to find one of the best roasts in Dublin but it’s always in high demand. Priced between €84.95 and €99.95 for four people, including a bottle of house wine, choose from rib of beef or roast chicken and rest assured that the trimmings are top notch.
The best addition to this menu is the new whole roast suckling pig, served as it would be in chef Jose Gomez’s native Spain. You’ll need to pre-order your roast by Friday, (or a week in advance for the pig) but the idea of crispy potatoes and buttery green beans should be all the motivation you need to pick up the phone.

4. FX Buckley
Known for the quality of its meats, everything is cooked in Josper charcoal ovens. This gives the meat the smoky sweetness of the charcoal, while the high temperatures creates a hint of crispiness. Roast rib of beef, Yorkshire pudding, creamy mash, duck fat roast potatoes, confit shallots, roast carrots and tenderstem broccoli with roast gravy will set you back €19.50.We highly advise adding a Bloody Mary, which is made with a blend of spicy F.X. Buckley seasoning, tomato juice, fresh lemon and vodka (€8).

5. The Butcher Grill
This meatcentric eatery in Ranelagh village offers both a Saturday and Sunday roast – a carb-heavy feast of beef striploin (€27), rack of pork or roast chicken (€23), trimmed with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, gravy and duck fat roast potatoes.

6. Brookwood
Having built its reputation on their steaks, Brookwood is a clear front runner if you’re after a beef-based Sunday roast, but they also offer organic Irish chicken, pork belly, and an indulgent combination of all three known as “The All In”. With Yorkshire puddings, creamy mash, carrots, cabbage and gravy as accessories to the main event, this is a roast in the purest and unfussiest sense. Prices range from €17 to €24 per person.

7. Hawksmoor
On Sundays, Hawksmoor Dublin offers a sumptuous Sharing Roast menu which includes a selection of sharing starters, the famous beef roast for main course and a choice of puddings to finish. With two private dining rooms available, None the Wiser and Croom a Boo, this would be an amazing Day Two option for family.
A whole rump of 35-day dry-aged beef is super-slow cooked, first on real charcoal and finished in the oven and served in cast-iron skillets with bone marrow gravy and side like like macaroni cheese to tantalise your tastebuds. Large sharing puddings complete the feast, so leave space for dessert.

Beef striploin (€27), roast chicken and pork rack (both €23) are all served with Yorkshire Pudding, duck fat roasties, gravy, stuffing, carrots and hispi cabbage. Plus optional sides such as smokey beans and mash and bone marrow butter will be hardf to resist. As it’s located on the newly transformed large first floor above Whelehan’s Wines, there’s an extensive and enticing wine menu to pair with your food, and some exciting cocktail options too. 9. The Paddocks
A buzzy neighbourhood pub with a much fawned-over carvery lunch, The Paddocks is also home to the one of the city’s best vegan Sunday roasts! While pork, turkey, beef and bacon (from €16.95) are, of course, on the menu, their beef and turkey joint-style vegan roasts, served with sage stuffing, olive oil mash, red wine gravy and a wealth of vegetables make it one of the most inclusive spots on our list.
