A Virginia Park Lodge Wedding with Serious Style: Emma & Sam

Real wedding couple Emma and Sam dreamed of a relaxed wedding day that was filled with laughter and tonnes of love. Working as a bridal makeup artist, Emma had been privy to many sensationally stylish weddings through the years. So, as you can only imagine her autumn wedding was of the exact same calibre.

150 of their nearest and dearest joined them for their celebration at the enchanting Virginia Park Lodge in Co. Cavan. Giving their guests a great time was of top priority so much so that they had everything from an Aperol station to a trad band. With Adam & Grace there to capture all the day’s magical moments, it was a remarkably beautiful celebration of their love story.

Let’s kick things off with how they met. Emma is from Sutton in Dublin and Sam is from London. They tell us, “We met on Tinder probably one of the original Tinder dates 10 years ago and had a mutual friend Tom who we both vetted and decided it was worth a date. Sam promised a date at London Zoo which never happened and we ended up on the Southbank and finished the night in an old man pub.”

Emma thought Sam would propose to her in Ireland so when he whisked her away to the Cotswolds for her birthday she had no idea he was going to pop the question. “We went for country walks and spent lots of time in cosy pubs. Sam thought about proposing in some of these different spots but decided to propose on the grounds of the beautiful country house we were staying in much to Emma’s delight. It was an extremely special moment for us both and we spent the evening drinking champagne and called some of our close friends and family.”

We love the first look photo Emma had with her dad. As for their wedding venue, the couple wanted a location that reminded them of their dreamy proposal spot. “We wanted somewhere that brought all the best parts of that back to us. We felt Virginia Park Lodge ticked all the boxes. It was the perfect mix of English and Irish like us as a couple. It was relaxed and then had so many wow factors at the same time.”

The couple wanted their wedding to be elegant and timeless with the décor complementing the beauty of Virginia Park Lodge. “We didn’t want to be too led by trends so we embraced a classic vibe but with a modern edge.”

The sunken garden for the ceremony proved to be the real wow moment for the couple. “The attention to detail in the lodge and the incredible food were all elements that were important to us. Walking around it with Deirdre made us feel the love that all the staff had for the beautiful lodge. We could envision our family and friends there. It was weekend we will never forget.”

Emma looked magnificent wearing an off-the-shoulder Halfpenny London gown which boasted a ruched bodice. She accessorised with Loeffler Randall gold pleated bow mules and a cathedral veil adorned with floral ruffles brought a breathtakingly whimsical edge. She wore beautiful jewellery that she inherited from her mum who had sadly passed away eight years before.

“Wearing her jewellery that day meant a lot. The sound of her gold bangles will always remind Emma of her so having these touches were important to us both.” Their favourite ceremony reading? It was I Knew That I Had Been Touched by Love which they found on One Fab Day. Their little girl Sadie made the most adorable flower girl.

“Having our daughter present was incredibly special for us both. She had turned one the week before. Seeing her in her flower girl dress was a super special moment.” Black bridesmaids dresses always make a serious style statement and her ladies looked sensational in square neckline gowns from Dresscode.

The run up to their big day was made even more busy as four months before they tied the knot they moved back to Dublin! Reflecting on their journey to the aisle, they say, “Research is really key. Looking at other real weddings on different venue social media pages really helped us. One Fab Day is a great place to find lots of tips about suppliers and real weddings. We hadn’t lived in Ireland for 12 years so it was great to find inspiration online.”

Flowers in cream and blush shades underpinned their wedding day aesthetic and their signage was minimalistic and sleek. The couple opted for charity wedding favours with donations made to cancer research.

As for wedding planning advice, they say, “Try to avoid the noise and opinions of everyone else and make it about you two. It has to feel authentically you, include elements of both of you as a couple. Everyone is there to celebrate you and the love you feel that day is like no other. Enjoy every minute it really does fly by.”

The couple elevated the wow-factor of their textured wedding cake with a wedding cake meadow display.

Summing up their celebration, they reflect, ‘It was a great weekend getting friends and family together. With people catching up and making new friends over a pint of Guinness or an espresso martini.”

The couple went to The Cliff House in Waterford straight after the wedding for a mini-moon. “It was heavenly. So tranquil and calm and just what we needed.” For their honeymoon they are thinking they’ll jet off to Italy or Greece.
